WHAT DOES A TyPICAL HEAT TREATMENT DAY LOOK LIKE? |

Bed bugs have small, flat, oval-shaped bodies and are roughly the size of an apple seed. They are reddish-brown and can be squished fairly easily.
Adult bed bugs can be as long as 10 mm. They have an oval, broad, flat body to squeeze into tight cracks and a short, broad head. Adult bed bugs are brown, but darken to a blood red colour after feeding.

Bed bug nymphs (young bed bugs) are a lighter, more translucent yellow in color and are slightly smaller (approx 1.5mm). They also darken after feeding (canada.ca).

Even the MOST spotless home can get bedbugs. It is a common misconception that housekeeping and cleanliness are related to bedbug infestations.
These tiny hitchhikers can be picked up in taxi cabs, movie theatre seats, restaurants, public transportation, during travel, and even campgrounds during the summer.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS

Small blood spots on sheets or mattress
Bed bug moltings (shed exoskeleton casing)
Pearl white, sticky, oblong eggs
Bed bug droppings, a mixture of blood and enzymes, or the small stains left behind by them (may be seen on walls, furniture, sheets, or mattresses.
In cases of extreme infestation, bedbugs may be accompanied by a sweet or somewhat acidic smell, sometimes compared to the scent of berries

Did you know it can take up to 14 days for bedbug bites to appear on the skin?
For some - there will be no reaction at all!
Typically, bites can be most noticed on body parts not covered up during rest, such as legs or arms.
If you do notice any bites, try not to scratch! Although bed bugs are not known to transmit any diseases, there may be varying degrees of allergic reaction. Try not to scratch!

CHEMICALS AND TRAPS are sprayed or set in your home, which are very effective at killing bed bugs that are exposed. Pesticides are a broad spectrum that include both toxic (such as the infamously banned DDT) and nontoxic (like diatomaceous earth, a naturally-derived, pet-safe type of silica dust treatment made of the fossilized remains of tiny, aquatic organisms called diatoms). There are many non-toxic, pet, and children-safe treatments are available. While chemicals are an extremely important part of the solution and can be crucial in cases of unusual, unreachable areas where heat is not an option, chemicals do not kill dormant eggs and only kill bed bugs that are exposed to the toxins. Since eggs are not killed by chemicals, pest management professionals must return to the property many times to repeat the insecticide treatment. Only through the application of chemicals and heat treatment can there be complete extermination in a single visit.
KUTT SERVICE CORP. partners with many local pesticide companies in Brant County.
ELECTRIC AND PROPANE HEATING EQUIPMENT runs inside the residence off of their designated heat source. Electric heaters are lower power, more compact units, typically able to treat 1-2 rooms per day, and can cap at output temperatures as low as 130°F. This temperature may not be hot enough to permeate through walls and kill the bed bugs that are hiding in hard to reach places. Electric heat often takes too long to reach the "kill zone" temperatures which gives bed bugs time to escape. A great deal of caution should be used if using direct fired propane heat due to the high degree of fire hazard involved.
HEAT ASSAULT 500X is an advanced thermal remediation machine that uses a completely safe food-grade thermal fluid. The HEAT ASSAULT 500X remains parked outside during the duration of the treatment, where the thermal fluid is first heated then fed through industrial hoses to unit heaters, which transform the heated fluid into hot air. Strong heat is an extremely efficient way of killing bed bugs. Bed bugs and bed bug eggs are killed immediately when exposed to the kill zone temperature of 122°F. Our standard operating temperature is over 20 degrees higher than this to ensure extremely thorough extermination, even in subspaces. Heat Assault is 100% people and pet friendly and is capable of reaching fully controllable temperatures of 205°F if required, making it the most powerful and effective bed bug heating equipment on the market. This type of power ensures that there is only one treatment required.

Since eggs are not killed by chemicals, pest management professionals must return to the property many times to repeat the insecticide treatment. Recent academic studies have proven that bed bugs are becoming resistant to pesticides, meaning that more chemicals are required to be sprayed in a treatment to have the same effectiveness as they used to. There are also safety concerns regarding the use of these chemicals in a home setting, around children and pets.

SET UP: On the morning of the treatment, set up takes about an hour. Hoses, heaters, and circulating fans are strategically placed throughout the designated areas to be treated (see Figure 9, left).
Once the treatment begins, the location will be inaccessible for 4-8 hours, depending on size and severity of infestation.
DISCREET: Our vehicles, equipment, and uniforms are discreet.
